While trying to assure Mike about Eleven's devotion to him, Will finally reveals the painting, a D&D-inspired tribute to his friends that depicts Mike leading their fight against a dragon.
Will takes the painting with him to greet Mike at the airport, a detail that led fans to wonder whether the painting is of or for Mike, and whether Will has romantic feelings for his friend - a speculation that gains more weight with the inclusion of multiple scenes in Episodes 8 and 9. Yet, later in the episode Will is seen shying away from a girl who tries to flirt with him in class. “Yeah, and you'll see soon who he's interested in,” Finn Wolfhard (Mike) added in the video.ĭuring a voiceover from Eleven in Episode 1, she notes that Will “refuses” to show her a painting he's been working on tirelessly, making her believe it's for a girl he likes. “He’s interested in someone else in the group… he's very interested." “If you’ve been watching the show, you should know that Will is not interested in El,” said David. In Season 5, will Max wake up from her coma and make a full recovery? Will Max now have a connection to Vecna and the Upside Down in the same way that Will does? Or will the party be down one knight as they fight to defeat the dark wizard? Is Will going to come out?įans have speculated about Will's sexuality for many seasons, and have gathered a handful of clues from ST4 to further their case for the youngest Byer being gay: Will's many longing looks at and coded conversations with Mike, his choice of gay mathematician Alan Turing as his hero for the school project, and more specifically, his heart-to-heart with Mike in Episode 5. Eleven tries to find Max's mind using her powers once more, but there is no response. Lucas is seen reading to Max, who is in the hospital with severe injuries and in a coma. But in Episode 9, it's clear that even that may not have been enough. Her heart stops for a full minute before Eleven is able to use her powers to bring her back to life. She dies in Lucas' arms, blinded and numb. Even though Eleven is able to temporarily defeat Vecna with the help of Steve, Robin, and Nancy, he still claims Max as his victim, breaking open Hawkins with the creation of a fourth gate. Max puts up a hell of a fight, trying to buy the gang time by hiding from Vecna within her own happiest memories - namely, her first kiss with Lucas at the Snow Ball in Season 2. In Volume 2, Max takes one for the team by using herself as Vecna bait, ditching her walkman as her makeshift forcefield. It was revealed that Vecna/Henry/One is the series' true Big Bad, as he is behind the evil creation of the Upside Down and the Mind Flayer. Max Mayfield will go down in history as the realest MVP there ever was. And even though the last episode of the season was nearly three hours long, there's still so much unfinished business to attend to in Hawkins, Indiana.Įpisode 8 and 9 of Stranger Things 4 did provide us with lots of answers, just as star Gaten Matarazzo had promised Teen Vogue: Steve healed from the Demobat attack, Nancy made it out of Vecna's mind alive without being cursed, Will's painting was the most heartwarming tribute to his friends, Joyce and Murray sprung Hopper and Dmitri/Enzo out of the Russian prison and made it home to their family, and the Nina Project was successful in bringing Eleven's powers back.
